Rhythm of Serving

Brazos Pointe Living Room Podcast:

Flexible Projects

Can Be Tailored to Your Group
  • Neighbors – Individual Projects (priority on Single Moms, Low SES, Elderly, Disabled, etc.)
    • Who do you know that has a need?  Ask your group to brainstorm on people they know who could use a helping hand (or a bunch of them) for things they can’t do alone.
      • Prefer to serve non-BPF attendees for this event.
      • NOT for your small group members (we should be doing that all year long)
      • Examples:
        • Yard work
        • Minor home repairs
        • Car care
        • General cleaning

  • Neighborhoods – Block Parties
    • It may be odd for a small group to throw a block party.  For my group, I would use the slant of “thanks for letting us mess up parking on the street on Tuesday nights”.  Or if you have several SG members in the host home neighborhood, then it would be less awkward.
      • Examples:
        • Cook out with burgers, hot dogs or brats.
        • Ice cream social with neighbors.
        • Include Corn Hole or other outdoor games.
        • Simple get-to-know-you event with cold drinks (reminder - no alcohol for small group events)

  • Elderly – Assisted Living Parties
    • Facilities that we have discussed this idea with:
      • Sodalis (Alisa will call back),
      • Carriage Inn, Kennedy Thompson.  Tue, Thur, Fri, Every 2nd Sunday for Worship @ 2:00.  Evenings are okay.
      • Brazos Healthcare (Nexian) – Wed and Fri after 1:00, evenings okay (Kailey Robinson, 713-386-9437
    • Ideas:
      • Nail painting for women, Jewelry making, games (cards, dominos, simple board games, bingo), Karaoke, teaching dances, crafts (making bracelets, or other jewelry), snacks, ice cream, group bible study, listening to stories.  BPF has a theater-style popcorn machine that could be used.

  • Community – Freeport Elementary School Carnival
    • Will require significant preparation and multiple groups.
    • BPF can facilitate getting interested groups connected and getting engaged with the proper school officials.
