In addition to our global efforts overseas and our local efforts in the surrounding community, we continue to help launch new churches committed to reaching the unchurched. Equipping Pastor Randy Dane is our Pointe person with all these efforts. I asked him to pass on the latest news from our most recent new church start.

A Next Step for a Friend
BPF is the lead sponsor for Water’s Edge Community Church, a church plant in Richmond, southwest of Sugarland.  Sponsoring local church plants is a part of our GlobaLocal strategy to reach our area and make an impact for the kingdom of God.  As a sponsor we support them financially, through coaching, and by sharing our resources and experience. 

In an effort to share a resource that has been a huge success at BPF we bought a Financial Peace University kit for Water’s Edge, and paid for their staff to take the class also.  They started FPU in May as their first Small Group, and had a lot of success with the experience.  The families of Water’s Edge have already retired a combined debt of over $20,000!

The class was especially powerful for their pastor, Randy Beck.  This is what Randy had to say:

“FPU has been a life changing experience for us as a family.  We just wanted to say thank you for giving us the opportunity to grow and get a taste of what life will be like debt free.”

It is exciting to hear about the next steps Randy Beck’s family and Water’s Edge Community Church are taking.  It is also exciting to be a part of the things that God is doing in Brazoria County, neighboring counties, and across the world!

Maybe your next step is to take Financial Peace University?  Maybe your next step is to go through the Discovering Marriage experience?  Both of these nextSTEP classes kick-off Wednesday, August 27th.  Sign-up is currently going on for both of these classes.  If you are interested in signing up or asking questions please stop by the Information Center in the BPF Foyer on Sunday.

The whole concept of Christianity in our culture is undergoing change. Every assumption is being questioned as we learn to communicate timeless truths to a post modern society. Traditional ideas about belief and practice are being challenged. When it all shakes down (long after we’re gone) will the church be stronger? We believe it can be.

Signup Open for Cambodia Mission 2009
Would you like to reserve a spot on the 2009 Cambodia Mission Trip?  We are in the process of reserving tickets for this winter’s trip to the Orient. If any of the following projects interests you…or, you have something you believe you could contribute (like a job skill), let us know right away.

Approximate Cost:
$1700.00 = Airfare
    500.00 = Room and Meals
$2200.00 (minimum cost)
The cost could go up considerably (due to rising fuel costs) by the time we make our final payment, but with the price of oil falling that is becoming less likely.

Discovering Marriage
Discovering Marriage is a 12-week course designed to improve and revitalize marriages.  The course incorporates resource material from several authors and churches.

The topics that will be covered are:
1. Marriage is God’s Design          
2. Spiritual Growth                       
3. Positive Communication          
4. The Five Love Languages       
5. Conflict Resolution                  
6. Forgiveness & Trust
7. Accepting Your Spouse
8. Teamwork
9. Dealing with Finances
10. Sexual Intimacy
11. Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work
12. Leaving a Legacy

Discovering Marriage will meet on Wednesday nights, August 27th through November 12th.  Sign up will be in the BPF foyer on August 17th, or you can contact Kevin or Jan Johnson at 979.388.9331 or kjohnson050@att.net. Note: the last day to sign up for this class is Wednesday, Aug 20th. The cost for the class is $45, which includes books and materials.  There is a limited class size to accommodate discussion.  Childcare is available for children through 6th grade, please include names and ages of children when you sign up.

Discovering Brazos Pointe
Discovering Brazos Pointe is an interactive class that will give you insight to the vision, structure, and strategy of BPF.  Membership is an option at the end of the class. A meal will be provided for adults.

7th Inning Stretch - Sunday, August 31st
The Children’s Ministry gives our volunteers periodic days off in appreciation of their service throughout the year.  So, on August 31st we will ONLY be providing childcare for infants through 3 years old. All children 4 years old and older will attend the worship service with their parents.

STUDENT MINISTRY

Student Small Groups begin August 24th!!!
100 years from now, the only thing that will matter is a teenager’s relationship with God.  Small Groups are an essential part of BPF’s strategy to guide students to take their next step with God and to prepare them for life after high school.  Click here for more information.

End of Summer Hang Out at Java Jazz – August 17th
Hey Students!  School is right around the corner, so don’t miss your chance to get a last taste of summer at Java Jazz.  We’ll be hanging out from 7pm – 9pm.  Java Jazz is located at 211 Parking Way in Lake Jackson.
