Lauren & Tamara’s Big Adventure
Just a few weeks ago we heard Greg Johnson’s story about becoming a Journeyman Missionary (2-3 year assignment) in Brazil through the IMB (International Mission Board). Well, he’s not the only one interested in serving overseas. Tomorrow night we have the opportunity to help send two more of our own to Cambodia for a one year mission. They want to work at our Hope for Cambodia Orphanage teaching English and improving healthcare.
Lauren Wallace and Tamara Stein are active in many facets of our Fellowship. Lauren’s a school teacher, Tamara’s a nurse. This time last year they were sensing God leading them to give a year or two of their lives in service to others overseas. So both tightened their belts and started saving. Then they signed on for last January’s trip to Cambodia hoping to discover if that was the place God may be leading them. It was.
Since they came home they’ve been preparing to return. They’ve contacted mission agencies to learn all they can. Tamara actually spent a month in Cambodia this summer researching what it will take for them to live there long term. Both turned in their resignations at work. They have a budget and a plan. And they’ll begin a 3-week mission training course in Colorado next month. Now it’s our turn to get on board.
Tomorrow night they’ll open their hearts and present their vision to the 140 of you who responded to the invitation we extended the past several weeks. They’ll ask for our prayers and our personal financial support. We’ve seen several of our BPF families move overseas, sensing “God’s call” to be “corporate missionaries” – allowing their employers to pick up the tab. Greg Johnson, serving in the Amazon River area, will be supported by the IMB, the missions agency we’ve been supporting financially since day one of our Fellowship. Now it’s time to send some of our young adults to one of own GlobaLocal projects and help share the costs of their mission. What a privilege!
